Interlaboratory consensus building

چکیده

Determining the degree of equivalence participating laboratories from results measurement comparisons still prompts discussions among metrologists, especially where uncertainties have been underestimated. This paper expands on a solution to problem issued in 2020 by Journal Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry. The example illustrates an approach consensus-building based Bayesian selection statistical models that attempt explain excess data variation. probability any further model being correct can be similarly calculated.

Determining Consensus Values in Interlaboratory Comparisons and Proficiency Testing

An important part of interlaboratory comparisons and proficiency testing is the determination of the reference value of the measurand and the associated uncertainty. It is desirable to have reference values with low uncertainty, but it is crucial that these values are reliable, i.e. they are correct within their stated uncertainty. In some cases it is possible to obtain reference values from la...

Consensus-Building, Knowledge and Conditionality

Progress in poverty reduction depends primarily upon policy and institutional changes in low-income countries. The Bank's previous approach to inducing these changes has been through negotiated loan conditionalities. The empirical evidence suggests that this approach has been largely ineffective where change occurred it was chosen by governments rather than induced by loans. I discuss various c...

Building Consensus with Balanced Splits

Given the multitude of sources for reconstructing the evolutionary history between entities, phylogenetic reconstruction methods often provide several trees classifying these entities. A key step in reconciling the different trees is to construct a consensus view of the history. If we consider each tree as a collection of laminar splits (two-way partitions), the primary problem in arriving at a...

The Building Blocks of Consensus

Consensus is an important building block for building replicated systems, and many consensus protocols have been proposed. In this paper, we investigate the building blocks of consensus protocols and use these building blocks to assemble a skeleton that can be configured to produce, among others, three well-known consensus protocols: Paxos, Chandra-Toueg, and Ben-Or. Although each of these prot...

Consensus building: How to persuade a group

Many decisions in private and public organizations are made by groups. The paper explores strategies that the sponsor of a proposal may employ to convince a qualified majority of group members to approve the proposal. Adopting a mechanism design approach to communication, it emphasizes the need to distill information selectively to key members of the group and to engineer persuasion cascades in...
